2014 Pacific hurricane season
The 2014 Pacific season has 23 storms in the best-track record; 22 reached tropical-storm strength and 16 became hurricanes, 9 of them major. Its accumulated cyclone energy of 223.8 is the sixth-highest of the 77 seasons in the eastern and central Pacific record since 1949. For hurricanes it is tied for the second-busiest season. Genevieve was the strongest, peaking at 160 mph as a Category 5 hurricane. Landfall records exist for 3 of its storms, in Baja California Sur, Guerrero, Hawaii and Sonora. The first record is dated May 22, the last November 5.
Storm by storm
Formation peaked in July and September, with 5 storms each. Genevieve both lasted longest, 19.2 days as a tropical or subtropical system, and contributed the most energy, 11% of the season's ACE. Strongest landfall of each storm: Iselle reached Hawaii as a tropical storm on August 8; Odile reached Baja California Sur as a Category 3 hurricane on September 15; Trudy reached Guerrero as a tropical storm on October 18.
